Keller's city council has landed on Aaron Rector, the city’s financial guru, to take the reins as interim city manager once Mark Hafner steps down at the end of February, this announcement was made just tonight. Rector's been the man with the plan behind Keller's finances since joining the team in 2016, eventually climbing the ranks to oversee departments like Finance, Utility Billing, IT, and Communications as Director of Administrative Services.
His knack for number crunching and keeping the city's wallet in check hasn't gone unnoticed—especially since he's been managing a hefty $100+ million annual budget, cutting costs, and boosting service left and right. The city’s head honcho, Mayor Armin Mizani, sang Rector's praises, stating that out of an "incredible team of directors," Rector "is uniquely positioned to understand City Council’s priorities" with their balance of fiscal savvy and high-quality city perks, according to the City of Keller.
This isn't Rector's first rodeo—he's got some serious street cred from his time at the Town of Flower Mound and a good eight-year stint with Cedar Park right before landing in Keller. Stacked with a political science degree from Texas A&M and a master's in public administration from the University of North Texas, the man's got the brains for the job. As for Rector, he’s fired up about the gig, promising to uphold the "organization’s exceptional culture" and working towards making Keller "the most family-friendly city in Texas," he said, as per the City of Keller.
Mizani is looking to Rector to help craft next year’s budget, and they'll be using this time to weigh their options for a permanent city manager too. So looks like Rector will be up to his elbows in spreadsheets and city plans for the foreseeable future, but if anyone’s got this, it’s him—after all, he's been at it for eight years and doesn’t seem to be slowing down yet, the mayor and council are singing his praises and looking forward to see how they can keep up Keller's rep for top-tier family living.
