Arlington's commitment to sprucing up its neighborhoods has been bolstered with a recent cash injection from the city council. On Tuesday, officials green-lit $77,660 in Neighborhood Matching Grants, aimed at backing a series of community-led improvement projects throughout the city, a move in step with Arlington's vision of being "The American Dream City."
The grant program kicked off in 2007, was designed to not only enhance the local streets and sidewalks but to actively engage residents in city affairs. To promote collaboration, the program mandates neighborhoods to chip in at least 20 percent of the project cost, which can be met through cash, volunteer hours, or in-kind services. This year's chosen projects are set to quickly benefit from the newly allocated funds, according to the City of Arlington, Texas.
The grant recipients for 2024 include La Frontera Homeowners Association with a $20,060 grant for playground improvements and the Inniswood Owners Association receiving $17,480 to replace and upgrade the fence along California Lane. Additionally, Clubview Addition, in partnership with the Arlington Sculpture Garden Foundation, snagged a hefty $25,000 for the enhancement of Meadowbrook Park Sculpture Garden.
Not to be left out, Cantor Park Condominiums secured $15,120 to beautify their landscaping, ensuring that all corners of Arlington stand to shine a little brighter. The City's commitment is evident as it has granted over $1.36 million to 138 projects since the inception of the initiative. Those looking to apply for the next round of grants should mark their calendars - the application window is slated to open once again in August 2024.
