Construction-induced congestion is stretching its steely fingers across the Southeast Connector Project. Beginning Dec. 19 until Feb. 8, southbound US 287 will be stripped down to one lane from Village Creek Road to Carey Street during the unholy hours of 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. A full closure will slam southbound US 287 at Village Creek Road every night until Jan. 3, as reported by the City of Arlington, Texas.
The City of Arlington urges travelers to take a deep breath and plan, as this 2.1 billion dollar project aims to widen nearly 11 miles of I-20, I-820, and US 287, with its sights set on smoothing the ruffled traffic feathers by 2027. Those who wish to escape the snarls and snags may visit the Southeast Connector Project website to sign up for real-time text or email updates, so at least they won't be caught unawares. The website also serves as a treasure trove of project photos, detour maps, and closure details. And in a bid to shave off some seconds from your commute, the City of Arlington has joined forces with Waze. Simply download the app for a chance to navigate the chaos with a smidge more grace. Remember, the speed limit throughout the construction zone has been knocked down a notch to 55 mph, for safety's sake.
Other areas are also grumbling under the weight of progress. Southbound I-820 at Sun Valley Drive will be hit with lane reductions from Jan. 8 through Feb. 2, while eastbound I-20 at US 287 will see lane contractions through Jan. 26.
