It seems even the four-legged residents in Arlington, Texas, are susceptible to a little midnight wanderlust. Arlington's finest had their hands full late Sunday night when what appeared to be a mini horse or a pony—it's still up for debate—took itself for a late-night jaunt right past the East District Police Station, according to the Arlington Police Department.
The escapade turned into a community effort as patrol officers worked to corral the wandering equine with offerings of carrots, and apples from their lunches. After luring the animal back to the safety of their parking lot, they made sure their unexpected guest was kept out of harm's way. The officers, embraced their roles as temporary wranglers until the Tarrant County Sheriff's Office was contacted to collect the nightly trotter.
In an act not typical for law enforcement, the police waited with the loose livestock, letting the little guy munch on some fresh greens by the backdoor entrance as they awaited the deputies. "Great job helping out this equestrian pedestrian!!" per the Arlington Police Department. It's a story that not only the community but the officers involved won't soon forget, just another night's tale in the life of Arlington's police force.
The Tarrant County Sheriff's Office took the reins from there, assuring the safe return of the hoofed explorer to its rightful owners. This quaint incident, excellently handled by Arlington's officers, showcased the unexpected duties law enforcement can find themselves in, and judging by the reactions, provided a few smiles to residents of the "American Dream City".
