Dragons are swooping into East Arlington this weekend – but fear not, they're just part of the annual Lunar New Year Celebration set to breathe fire into Ben Thanh Plaza. As Arlington gears up to ring in the Year of the Dragon, the plaza is preparing to play host to a packed weekend of festivities, with a lineup that includes the captivating Lion Dance, a vibrant flower market, a slew of food vendors, live music, and even lucky money envelopes for the kiddos.
Open to the public, the cultural bash kicks off on Friday, Feb. 2, and runs through Sunday, Feb. 4 – promising three days to soak in an atmosphere rich in tradition and community spirit. Ben Thanh Plaza, a 175,000-square-foot shopping haven, is already a hub for those looking to find around 50 stores and more than a baker's dozen of eateries. The space regularly transforms into a gathering point for occasions such as these, and the Lunar New Year fest is one of the highlights on Arlington's calendar, according to the City of Arlington, Texas.
Marking a period that stretches from Saturday, Feb. 10 until Feb. 24, the Lunar New Year isn't just a spectacle of dragons and dances – it's a celebration intertwined with the cultures of China, Korea, Vietnam, and other nations riding the lunar calendar waves. What’s more, over 26,000 residents are of Asian descent, underscoring the cultural significance and anticipated participation in the event.
Eager beavers can find all the action at Ben Thanh Plaza, located at 1818 E. Pioneer Parkway, where the festival is shaping up to be a memorable salute to the new lunar cycle. It's more than just a marketplace; it's a stage where the community unfolds a tapestry of traditions that have traveled across oceans and generations to find a home in Arlington.
