The sprawling Austin Convention Center is the scene for this year's Potato Expo. This event promises to be bigger than ever with a record-breaking trade show, industry giants, and a heavy helping of Texas flair including barbecue and live music. The Expo kicked off bright and early at 11 a.m. on Jan. 10 and will run until 4 p.m. on Jan. 11, in Exhibit 4 of the Center. Presented by the National Potato Council (NPC) and now in its 16th edition, the Expo brought together a global ensemble of potato growers, suppliers, and enthusiasts, according to KXAN.
, attendees are in for a treat with a spectrum of activities and exhibits encompassing the entire potato supply chain, including cultivation, processing, and distribution. The event's second staging in Austin is poised to outdo its previous gatherings, expanding the trade show to embrace over 200 exhibitors sprawled across a 100,000 square-foot space, up from the 194 at the 2020 Expo in Las Vegas. The expansion was necessitated by the demand, with companies clamoring to be a part of the largest potato-industry gathering in North America, as per Potato Grower Magazine.
While the focus is certainly on potatoes, it's not just sample spuds and farming gear. Potatoes are going viral, or at least that's what the Expo intends to showcase with one of its highlighted sessions. "Potatoes Gone Viral! Reaching The TikTok Generation", a talk by Steve Lerch, digital marketing and strategy expert, will delve into the impact of digital content and social media in promoting potatoes to a younger, digitally-savvy audience, as reported by Potato Grower Magazine.
