Austin's vibrant cultural scene will be brimming with sweetness and tradition this weekend as Mexican-American families, and those from related Latin American communities, gear up to celebrate Día de Los Reyes on January 6, a festive extension to the holiday season. The day, also known as Three Kings Day or Epiphany, marks a significant event in the Christian tradition, where it is believed the three wise men presented gifts to baby Jesus upon finding him by following a bright star to Bethlehem, according to KVUE.
Chuy Guevara, Mi Tradicion Bakery's owner, said, "It's a process. We make everything from scratch. We use tons of eggs, flour, and every little thing. The flavors, the candies on top have meaning, a significance." The bakery is set for a busy period, kicking into high gear to churn out thousands of roses in honor of this cherished occasion, as per KVUE.
Mi Tradicion is open from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. every day. They'll be exceptionally busy over the weekend making thousands of roscas de reyes.
