A routine return trip to a local market turned into a windfall for a Bay County man, whose change of luck netted him a cool $1 million from a Michigan Lottery scratch-off. Buying his ticket at Jack's Fruit & Meat Market, located at 1000 Salzburg Ave., the 58-year-old winner went home significantly richer on his second visit to the store in a single day.
"I had been to Jack’s earlier in the day and bought a couple of tickets," the man, wishing to remain anonymous, described his fortuitous day in a statement obtained by FOX 2 Detroit. "I had to return an item later in the day, and decided to buy a couple more tickets and one of those was the $1 million winner!" The lucky scratch-off, aptly named Cash is Queen, has had Michigan residents scratching in hopes of financial transformation since its launch in April 2023.
Opting for the practical, the winner chose to take his prize money as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000, forgoing the annuity payments for the full amount. This financial decision was detailed by Patch.com, as they reported on the man's intention to pay off his house and save what's left from the fortunate scratch-off victory.
While the newly minted millionaire sets his sight on a debt-free dwelling and a bolstered bank account, the allure of the Cash is Queen game continues to tempt players with more than $27 million in remaining prizes, including two more $1 million jackpots waiting to be found. The man told ABC12, "He plans to pay off his house with the money and save what is left," succinctly stating his intentions amidst the life-changing event. Lottery players have already raked in $25 million from the game, according to the Michigan Lottery.
