A run-of-the-mill Saturday night grocery run turned into a crime scene when a Benicia man decided to lift more than just food from a local store. Identified by the Benicia Police Department as Jilbril Aziz Ingersoll, the 23-year-old was nabbed after he allegedly zipped away with an electric shopping cart filled with stolen goods. The suspect had left the premises of the store located within Solano Square.
According to the Benicia Police Department's Facebook page, the bold theft occurred around 8:30 p.m., and the suspect had the gall to return on foot in an attempt to lift additional items, this endeavor was cut short thanks to store security and local law enforcement alertness, he allegedly tried to shoplift again, which resulted in his arrest.
Details on the Benicia Police Department website indicate that Ingersoll is now facing multiple charges, including grand theft, probation violation, receipt of stolen property, and shoplifting. The suspect, whose occupation is not listed, is described as a 5'9" black male weighing approximately 175 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Official records show that the young man was taken into custody in the area of Solano Square and the case against him is building, meanwhile, Ingersoll's case number is marked as 24-0082 and the incidents under which he's been charged include 487(A) PC for grand theft, 1203.2(A) PC for probation violation, 496(A) PC for known receipt of stolen property, and 459.5(A) PC for shoplifting.
