A known Mexican Mafia gang member was sentenced to a decade behind bars for gun charges. Alonso Guerrero Garcia, 40, received his uninviting future after pleading guilty to being a felon in possession of a fancy firearm, which authorities say he used to kidnap two individuals at gunpoint. The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Texas delivered the news of justice served.
On a summer day in June, Garcia’s wild ride down a one-way street in the wrong direction ended with a traffic stop that would put him away. Garcia had stashed a 9mm pistol with gold grips and Aztec markings beneath the driver’s seat. This choice of decor was undoubtedly distinctive but also damning, as photos discovered by authorities showed him brandishing the said weapon.
Previous convictions for aggravated assault and drug trafficking add to his notorious pedigree. Being a convicted felon, he was barred from possessing any guns. U.S. District Judge David S. Morales has meted out a 120-month sentence with a three-year chaser of supervised release.
FBI sleuthing, in concert with the Corpus Christi Police, brought Garcia's latest escapade to a halt. The case was brought as a part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods Program, aimed at reducing violent crime through community partnership and strategic enforcement.
He remains in custody.
