Culver City's arts scene just got a financial standing ovation, to the tune of nearly a quarter-million bucks. The city's council together with the Cultural Affairs Commission, dished out $244,960 in grants to back a diverse lineup of dance, music, and theater events slated throughout 2024.

A batch of thirty non-profit arts organizations have their hands on the cash and are set to deliver a cultural smorgasbord, from high-brow theater to hip-hop and everything in-between, the City Council of Culver City announced. And the best part? Most performances are either free of charge or come with a low-priced ticket that won't break the bank, giving local arts-fanatics and families alike a chance to soak in some culture.

Making sure everyone knows that the arts are a big deal in the city, Culver City Mayor Yasmine-Imani McMorrin praised the initiative. "Performing Arts are vital to ensuring we maintain the diversity and culture of Culver City," the mayor said, as quoted by the City's press release. The Kirk Douglas Theatre, one of the lucky grant recipients, joined the praise, "The City of Culver City has been a crucial partner for our programming at the Kirk Douglas Theatre, as we bring world-class theatrical experiences to the Culver City community. We hope you can join us at the theatre soon,” they chimed, eager to raise the curtain on the upcoming season.

Since 1994, the Performing Arts Grant Program has been making Culver City a hotspot for the arts within the Los Angeles County, the grant program bankrolled by the city's Cultural Trust Fund, with a monetary boost from Sony Pictures Entertainment. For those keen on keeping up with the cultural pulse, the City's Arts and Culture webpage has the scoop on all the acts taking the stage this year.

The City also shared the full roster of groups getting a piece of the grant pie: Sophisticated ensembles like the Culver City Symphony Orchestra, cutting-edge troops like Heidi Duckler Dance, and celebrated voices like Vox Femina Los Angeles, to name just a few. Add that to a city known for its quaint charm, a burgeoning tech scene and a spirited downtown, Culver City's latest move confirms it's a place where art and community are truly dancing to the same beat.
