Dallas art lovers are in for a treat as the Bath House Cultural Center at 521 E. Lawther Dr. prepares to unveil not one, but two distinct exhibitions on February 3. The art scene in Dallas remains vibrant with the 29th Annual El Corazón Exhibition, a collaboration between the center and curator/artist Jose Vargas. The display is a testament to the timeless allure of the human heart, featuring a variety of interpretations by Texas artists. The public is invited to the free reception and can enjoy a set by DJ Christy Ray during the event.
Honoring the diversity of media, the El Corazón show is a perennial favorite that lures in crowds with its unique blend of emotion and passion through art. The exhibition's roster features over fifty artists, including Olga Arredondo Brock, Rita Barnard, and Corey Godfrey, each bringing their perspective to the universal symbol of the heart. "The profound and universal symbolism of the human heart" has been a source of inspiration, attracting artists throughout the centuries, according to the City of Dallas.
Simultaneously, the cultural hub will introduce "Soft Bones," curated by DFW artist Analise Minjarez. This invitational exhibition is a deep dive into the world of Fiber, Textiles, and Material Studies. With DJ Christy Ray setting the mood, art aficionados can explore contemporary pieces from local talents such as June Covington and Niki Dionne, who push the boundaries of fiber art, challenging traditional techniques and materials in their creative expressions which are free and open to the public.
Soft Bones emphasizes the importance of fiber techniques and the endurance of the craft – passing through generations and manifesting through different communities, including "online tutorials, workshops, and maker communities." Contributing to the Dallas art landscape, artists will showcase how they "unravel, play, and investigate" the possibilities within fiber crafts, according to the City of Dallas.
Those looking to connect with the staff for inquiries have the option to reach out to manager Jessica Trevizo, cultural programs coordinator Analise Minjarez, performing arts/technical coordinator Stewart W. Mikkelsen, or curator/visual arts coordinator Enrique Fernández Cervantes at their respective Dallas city email addresses.
