Dallas is set to chill as an arctic cold front bears down on North and Central Texas, bringing temperatures down and wind chill values into the single digits. Expect sunny skies today with a high near 56 before the front hits. However, starting tonight, clear skies will give way to frigid lows around 25, with north winds picking up to 15 to 20 mph after midnight, gusting as high as 30 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
Friday is looking to stay sunny but with the mercury unable to climb, the high is predicted to hover near 37. North winds will persist, blowing 10 to 20 mph, with potential gusts to thoroughly feel up to 30 mph. The situation turns more dire Friday night when the temperatures plunge to a bitter low around 20, and the wind chill is expected to drop significantly, putting the 4 P's—people, pets, pipes, and plants.
Saturday will continue the sunny streak with a high near 38, but moving into Saturday night and Sunday, clouds will begin to gather. Rain chances start to pick up Sunday night, with the thermometer peaking at 39 during the day. The real wet weather kicks in overnight into Monday, with a 70% chance of precipitation and lows around 35.
Next week looks to be a damp one with "widespread rain and isolated thunderstorms expected nearly every day", as per the National Weather Service. With low temperatures Sunday and Monday nights threatening to freeze with a 20% chance of freezing rain, it's critical to prepare to protect plants, pipes, pets, and, most importantly, each other during these winter blasts.
