Dallas residents are gearing up for a chilly week ahead, with forecasts predicting a cocktail of unpleasant winter weather, including freezing drizzle and sleet. There's a "slight chance of freezing drizzle after noon, mixing with sleet after 3 pm" for Sunday, with temperatures struggling to climb above the low twenties, according to the National Weather Service.
Commuters should be wary tonight as the chance of precipitation rises to 50%, bringing more freezing rain and sleet to the area. Although ice accumulation is expected to be minimal, the roads could still become hazardous. The bitter cold will further sink its teeth in, with wind chill values estimated to be between 8 and 13 degrees.
The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday will not offer a reprieve from the cold, as Monday is expected to be cloudy with a high near 25. Early risers may face sleet, particularly before 9 am, which is when most of the day's 30% precipitation chance occurs. This weather continues into the night, as temperatures are forecast to plummet to around 13 degrees, and wind chill potentially dipping below zero.
Change is on the horizon, however, with Tuesday set to be mostly sunny, despite remaining harshly cold with a high near 28. The rest of the week offers a gradual thaw, culminating on Wednesday with a high near 44 and sunny skies, a stark contrast to the start of the week. "South wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon," according to the National Weather Service.
Dallas residents can finally look forward to more seasonable weather by Thursday when highs are predicted to reach into the mid-50s. The warming trend appears set to continue into the weekend, providing a much-needed break from the sleet and freezing temperatures of the preceding days. Sunshine dominates the outlook for Friday, with highs creeping up near 40, promising clearer skies and no precipitation for Saturday.
