Dallas County is stepping up to bat for its residents by assisting them to sign up for free or low-cost internet services. The assistance will be provided through Wednesday, Feb. 7, in a bid to connect more households to the internet in a time where digital access is nearly as essential as electricity, according to the City of Garland.
Under the federally administrated Affordable Connectivity Program, households earning below 200% of the federal poverty line, or those living with someone on certain government benefits, are eligible to potentially fully cover their internet costs. If the chosen internet plan costs $30 a month or under, it's on the house. Should the home internet service exceed $30 monthly, the program offers a $30 discount on the plan.
Interested and eligible members of the community can get more information by calling the number 469-946-9491. The Affordable Connectivity Program is overseen by the Federal Communications Commission, aiming to bridge the connectivity gap for low-income families. This initiative underscores the essential nature of internet access in a world where economic and educational opportunities are increasingly shifting online.
In a digital age, where access to information can significantly alter to level the playing field, these services are critical. The internet has transformed into a vital artery of communication and a reservoir of knowledge indispensable for those climbing the ladders of opportunity. Dallas County officials are urging residents to take advantage of the program before the Feb. 7 deadline.
