The National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas, issued a stern warning for drivers as dense fog is expected to roll over parts of Texas, including the Dallas area. Visibility could drop to less than one-quarter mile, making for hazardous driving conditions throughout this morning. "A Dense Fog Advisory means visibilities will be reduced to less than one-quarter mile. If driving, slow down, use your low-beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance between you and the vehicle ahead of you," the advisory stated in an announcement made public by the National Weather Service.
The fog blanket comes amid a bout of tempestuous weather grappling the region, with the forecast calling for showers and a possible thunderstorm before 3 pm today, and then a chance of showers and thunderstorms afterward. Curiously dense fog is also complicating visibility, with the Dallas area experiencing these conditions and a high near 52 degrees. Northeast winds of 5 to 10 mph will shift north-northwest in the afternoon, with the chance of precipitation standing at a firm 100 percent.
The weather service also cautioned that heavy rain could lead to flooding, particularly in regions that have seen significant rainfall this past week. "Widespread showers and embedded thunderstorms will impact all of North and Central Texas today. Heavy rain may lead to flooding, particularly where significant rainfall has already occurred this week," according to their hazardous weather outlook. Lightning poses the primary hazard within the thunderstorms menacing the state.
Looking onward, the rest of the week doesn’t promise much reprieve. Showers are expected with a 50 percent chance on Wednesday and Thursday promises only patchy fog before 11 am, upgrading to partly sunny skies later. As Texans navigate the fickle embrace of Mother Nature, they will face another bout of a 50 percent chance of showers come Friday afternoon, followed by possible thunderstorms before midnight. The forecast promises clearer skies for the weekend, with partly sunny and sunny conditions forecast for Saturday through Monday.
While spotter activation isn't anticipated at this time, residents and motorists are firmly urged to keep updated on the rapidly changing conditions and act with caution, especially during this dense fog advisory effective until 10 AM CST today, as well as the upcoming rounds of potential thunderstorms waiting within the week.
