Austin residents woke up to a blanket of dense fog this Thursday morning, with visibility dropping down to dangerous levels in various counties. Bastrop, Caldwell, Fayette, Gillespie, Lee, Mason, Milam, and Williamson counties are under a Dense Fog Advisory until 10 a.m. The day promises to stay mostly dry, despite the fog, with high temperatures expected to reach the mid to upper 50s, as reported by KVUE.
Areas of dense fog will continue to affect parts of the southern Edwards Plateau, Hill Country and I-35 through mid morning. Otherwise, cloudy and cool today. Next chances for rain come tonight into Friday and then again on Monday. #txwx pic.twitter.com/1J9jOGRueM

Later in the day, however, the relatively calm weather will take a turn as rain showers begin to develop. "The chance for rain Thursday night is now 80 percent." This rain isn't expected to be overly significant, adding an average of another tenth to a quarter inch of rainfall to the region. The nightly increase in temperatures seems to promise some respite from the cold, with tonight's low to hover around 47 degrees, according to the forecast from KVUE.
A warning that fog could once again blanket areas, especially in the morning hours, as stated by the National Weather Service.
Monday is set to bring about a shift with a high likelihood of strong northwest winds and, "Gusts between 40 and 50 mph are possible." These conditions, coupled with the low humidity, could quickly escalate to critical fire weather conditions, an unwelcome possibility that authorities are ready to quickly respond, as per the National Weather Service's Hazardous Weather Outlook.
