Chaos erupted on a Fairfield street when a throng of juvenile cyclists decided to play a game of obstruction with motorists. Fairfield Police were summoned to North Texas Street and Travis Boulevard around 5:40 pm on January 17, upon reports that 30-40 kids on wheels were blocking the road and intentionally disrupting traffic flow.

The officers swept in and found the group near North Texas Street and Cement Hill Road, reportedly in the middle of an attempt to take over an intersection. A handful of the young cyclists were arrested on charges of obstruction, the Fairfield Police Department stated. After receiving their citations, they were handed back over to their guardians. The police also confiscated several of the bikes involved in the incident.

"We’ve said it before, but will reiterate it again (although it may not be well received by the young people chasing the thrill behavior like this brings)," the Police Department expressed in a press release. "While we encourage outdoor activities for our youth, we do not condone engaging in those activities at the expense of safety – or the law."

To guide the youth toward proper channels for fun, the release also provided suggestions for alternative locations suitable for bike-riding activities, such as Linear Park Trail and Rockville Hills Regional Park. "Have fun the right way," the department advised. "You don’t have to endanger your life, break the law, or inconvenience others to have a good time." Reflections of the event and safety exhortations were echoed by Henry K. Lee, who reported on the arrests on X post.
