Both drivers involved in the morning freeway conflagration were evaluated by firefighter paramedics directly on the scene. Only the driver whose car caught fire suffered minor injuries, was found to have escaped the incident with minimal harm. Operations on the freeway required temporary lane closures to ensure emergency responder safety, as reported by the OC Fire Authority.
The cause of the fiery collision is currently under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). As operations unfolded, the OC Fire Authority expressed their gratitude to the public for patience, stating, "We appreciate everyone’s patience when we’re operating on roadways, sometimes requiring lanes to be shut down for yours and our firefighters’ safety."
While the investigation continues to piece together the events that led up to the blaze, traffic on the southbound 405 was impacted this morning as firefighters courageously battled the car fire. Insight into the dynamics of the crash and the origins of the fire is expected to be provided by the CHP once their findings are complete. The freeway has since been cleared and open for regular traffic flow.
