The green light has been given for a major trail development in Fort Worth, as city council members voted for a multi-million-dollar construction effort. The contract, topping $6 million, goes to McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., signaling the start of the CentrePort Trail Phase I project, set to connect key points in the area for outdoor enthusiasts and commuters alike.
The trail will kick off at the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) CentrePort Station and roll out to the Arlington River Legacy Trail's east end. The federally funded initiative, tucked in the Park & Recreation Department’s Grants Capital Projects Federal Fund, is expected to break ground in February this year, with a projected wrap date in March 2025, according to the City of Fort Worth.
The CentrePort Trail isn't just another piece of the urban landscape. It’s a planned 12-foot concrete multi-use path that promises to enhance the current infrastructure. The project includes expansive trail structures,, wide shoulders, and essential 911 location markers and trail signage, aiming at a safer and more connected Fort Worth.
With construction slated to begin in the coming month, residents can look forward to watching the CentrePort Trail take shape. Upon its completion, the trail is set to offer a modern path for pedestrians and cyclists, bridging the gap between city living and the great outdoors. It's an exciting development for all those who seek to mix the bustle of city life with the tranquility offered by a scenic route through Fort Worth’s green spaces.
