Tomorrow at 9:50 am, Garland streets will start closing down to make way for the 35th annual MLK Parade, commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Delays are expected as the city comes together to honor the Civil Rights leader with a vibrant display of floats and marching bands. The parade, kicking off precisely at 10 am, will initiate at Dairy Road and Garden Drive near Embree Park, as reported by the Garland Police Department.
Travelers with no interest in the parade spectacle should plan alternative routes, cause these streets are going to be blocked: from Dairy Road the procession heads north to hit State Highway 66 (Avenue D), swings west to First Street, goes north again and then west on State Highway 66 (Avenue B), finally ending up on Fifth Street. The parade route will conclude east at the Granville Arts Center.
Residents looking to join the festivities better wrap up in their warmest gear for the chill, with the local authorities encouraging attendees to #StayWarm. The parade, including its colorful floats, enthusiastic participants, and lively music, is anticipated to wind down by approximately noon, allowing Garland to return to its usual hustle and bustle soon after.
According to the Garland Police Department, "Road closures will occur as the parade progresses throughout the route." Whether you're a parade-goer or just passing through, the city recommends planning for a smooth and stress-free day.
