The Glendale Police Department has added a new member to its team, and it's not your average recruit. Brisket, a two-year-old Labrador Retriever trained by Canine Companions, joins the forces as a facility dog tasked with bringing comfort and support to the community in ways only a four-legged friend can. According to the information provided by GlendaleCA.gov, Brisket is equipped to aid in situations ranging from providing solace to victims and witnesses to engaging with children and the elderly during community events and welfare checks.

While serving the community, Brisket’s duties are as serious as they are heartwarming, saying, "We're excited to welcome Brisket to our ranks at the Glendale Police Department," Police Chief Manny Cid imparted to the city’s news site. Clearly recognizing the profound impact that a facility dog can have in stressful situations, Brisket’s presence aims to alleviate tension and help in healing after traumatic events.

Brisket's training at Canine Companions has made him skilled in 12 specific commands that allow interaction with officers, students, and others in a calm and proper manner. Sporting an impressive ability to pull toy wagons, push drawers closed, and retrieve a variety of objects, Brisket's skills are far from just sit and stay.

The cost of training and supporting a highly skilled Canine Companions facility dog like Brisket is estimated at $50,000, yet he is provided entirely free of charge thanks to donations and volunteers. As part of their work since 1975, Canine Companions has placed over 6,700 dogs, with many being paired with children and military veterans, their website boasts. Looking silly, Brisket appeared at various events and even got to rub shoulders with LA Chargers players, during his time as a sponsored "Charger Pup" while raised by his puppy raisers.

For those interested in having Brisket attend a local event, Glendale Police Services Officer Amy Tate is the point of contact. The furry officer's availability and details for such requests can be inquired by emailing [email protected].
