Two men have landed behind bars after Harris County constable deputies caught them with a stash of reportedly stolen construction equipment, and a whiff of marijuana led to a felony theft bust. The incident unfolded when the law enforcement officers halted a vehicle suspected in a string of burglaries along the 21900 block of Aldine Westfield Road on January 8, as per Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4.
Upon stopping the suspect's ride, deputies didn't have to look far. They peered in to find over $3,000 worth of construction tools sitting inside—the same gear reported missing recently—and the smell of burning marijuana wafting through the air signaled further trouble for the suspects, Kelvin Tarver and Hashma Castillo were the duo detained after deputies identified them.
The quick-witted lawmen moved swiftly. They tracked down the rightful owner of the equipment who, upon arriving at the scene, immediately recognized his lost possessions and claimed them back. This stroke of fortune for the victim, however, spelled out a different fate for Tarver and Castillo. "Kelvin Tarver and Hashma Castillo were arrested for felony Theft and booked into the Harris County Jail," per Mark Herman, Harris County Constable Precinct 4.
Details around the court and bond proceedings for the pair remained pending at the time of the report, while their legal path forward promised to be tangled, the hunt for justice within the often gray labyrinth of law enforcement coming to a temporary rest as these two alleged criminals are processed and await their day in court.
