A man faces charges after allegedly fleeing the scene of a car crash last week in Harris County, Texas. Constable Mark Herman's office reported that deputies arrested Devon Austin following a hit and run that occurred on December 30, 2023. The victim, whose vehicle was struck by the suspect's car, claimed the driver left without providing any information, a statement from the constable's office revealed.
The incident unfolded in the 25500 block of Aldine Westfield Road, where, according to the victim's account, the collision happened. Deputies who responded to the call managed to track down the vehicle described by the victim and detain its driver, identified as Devon Austin, according to the Facebook post of the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office. With the suspect in custody, the legal process began to take its course.
In a follow-up on the case, Constable Mark Herman's office announced the arrest. "Devon Austin was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with failing to stop and give information," the constable said. Austin's bond was reportedly set at $100.00, a seemingly small amount, yet one that signifies the acknowledgement of a suspect's alleged irresponsibility on the road, out of County Court 12.
The constable's announcement conveyed the matter-of-fact circumstances that led to Austin's apprehension. This incident serves as another routine example of law enforcement’s effort to enforce traffic laws and ensure accountability. Austin, who is currently processed through the judicial system, stands as the alleged perpetrator of a deed which, every year, leaves many in similar straits — struck by an unknown assailant, left to navigate the physical and legal aftermath alone.
