A manhunt is on in Harris County after a father turned a family argument into a shooting spree, and then exchanged fire with an off-duty police officer. The alarming event unfolded on Yaupon Holly Lane around 10:20 a.m. Thursday, where authorities say a confrontation between a father and his teenage son escalated to the point of gunfire.
The Harris County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office, responding to the reports of shots fired, found out that the father had discharged a rifle multiple times. According to FOX26 Houston, the disturbance involved the man firing his rifle five or six times. An off-duty Humble ISD officer, just arriving home, witnessed the situation and stepped in. The situation intensified when the father allegedly ignored the officer’s commands to stand down and instead, brandished his weapon.
The officer, not backing down, engaged the father, resulting in an exchange of gunfire, per authorities. Remarkably, no one was injured as the bullets flew. Click2Houston reported that the father then fled the scene in his vehicle. The identity of the father remains a mystery, as officials have not yet released it to the public.
The investigation is ongoing, with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office being notified of a the incident. Officers are urging the unnamed suspect to surrender to authorities. The connection, if any, between the suspect and the Humble ISD officer has not been established at this time. Agencies throughout the area are now on alert as they work to locate and apprehend the man accused of turning a neighborhood into his personal battleground.
