Two suspected thieves, dubbed as a felonious duo in the High Desert communities, were cuffed by deputies this week. Miguel Hernandez, a 31-year-old Hesperia resident, and Megan Vasquez, a 34-year-old from Apple Valley, are now facing charges after a series of alleged yard thefts escalated to an arrest.
On a Tuesday afternoon, the Hesperia Police Department received a call about a blue Toyota Avalon, matching the description of a previously sighted vehicle linked to similar crimes, who was reportedly snatching property from a residence on Birch Street. The vigilant eyes of neighbors, using the 'Neighbors App' by Ring, appeared to effectively help track down the suspects.
A report from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department indicates that during the officers' patrol of the area, the suspect's car was spotted and pulled over. Hernandez and Vasquez were inside, and a search of the Avalon uncovered a loaded handgun and stolen mail. With their criminal records, simply possessing the firearm is enough to put them behind bars.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department has booked the pair for being felons in possession of a firearm. Now, the authorities are turning to the public with hopes of unmasking any additional victims of their alleged crimes. A public thanks was also extended to community members for their keen observation and reporting efforts, which greatly assisted in the identification of Hernandez and Vasquez, by Sheriff-Coroner Shannon D. Dicus.
Those with information to contribute to this ongoing investigation can reach out to the Hesperia Police Department directly, or anonymously tip off via the We-Tip Hotline. Details regarding the case, and contact numbers, are comprehensively shared in the sheriff-coroner’s report. As the case unfolds, updates are expected to be provided by local law enforcement agencies.
