Beechnut St. was ablaze last Tuesday when a fire broke out in a vacant two-story commercial building. The Houston Fire Department (HFD) responded to the emergency call at 12288 Beechnut St. in the Alief area around 3:35 p.m. on January 15, according to an official report released by the city.
The HFD heroically battled the flames, arriving within six minutes to tackle the inferno. Firefighters launched an offensive to quench the fire, which was menacingly emitting from the structure. A strategic move was made to ventilate the roof, and after a thorough search, it was clear that there were thankfully no casualties in the incident.
An investigation into the fire has concluded that the incendiary event was accidental. HFD Arson investigators cited an electrical malfunction as the root cause behind the blaze, the report detailed. Despite the frightening scene, the quick action of 62 personnel from multiple HFD stations, including Stations 76, 69, 2, and many others, resulted in $750,000 worth of property being saved from destruction.
However, the fire did not leave without taking its toll. Approximately $250,000 in damages ravaged the property before firefighters could fully extinguish the flames, Houston officials confirmed. The incident drew a sizable response with firefighters from Stations 76, 69, 2, 68, 83, 10, 51, 57, 86, 75, 76, 73, 78, and Rescue 10, hustling to prevent further destruction and ensure public safety.
