A Texas rapper known as "Viper" was apprehended and stands accused of heinous acts against a woman he allegedly kidnapped and held captive for multiple years, as reported by local authorities. According to the Houston Police Department, detailed in a statement obtained by ABC13, the 52-year-old suspect, Lee Carter, was arrested on January 4 in a motel not far from where the crimes took place.
The woman, who has yet to be officially identified, claimed that the rapper picked her up while she was panhandling in south Houston, led her to believe he intended to help her due to her then-pregnant state, and later sequestered her in his garage; she was forced to consume drugs and coerced into sexual intercourse, this alarming situation persisted for nearly five years, within the confines of Carter's property in southeast Houston. Neighbors occasionally witnessed the woman being moved from a shop to the main house for bathing, but the grim reality of her captivity was largely concealed, said neighbor Jedediah Beights to ABC13.
This case gained momentum when Houston Fire Department officials responded to reports of a kidnapping in progress last April at Carter's address, where they found a dog and sparse living conditions including a mattress, as per ABC13 report. The rescue effort was enacted after the victim was able to reach out to the authorities through a text app on Carter's laptop, revealing she had not showered in months and weighed a mere 70 pounds as shared in statements given to the police.
According to the Hindustan Times, court documents filed in the case allege that the suspect, who is also a real estate broker currently pursuing a Master's in Business Administration, drugged the woman with various substances, such as crack cocaine and pills thus incapacitating her from making an escape, the woman had tried to escape previously by breaking a window yet Carter retrieved her from the hospital each time thwarting her attempts to free herself.
The current whereabouts of the victim and the fate of her pregnancy remain uncertain. Carter's attorney indicated his client's intent to obtain a master's degree, an intention at stark odds with the severity of the charges he now faces. Houston Police Department Commander Michael Collins expressed his and the department's commitment to securing justice for the victim and her family, according to a statement provided to ABC13.
