Houston police have slapped charges on a young man in connection with a shooting that left another man wounded outside a bar in the early hours of New Year's Day. The shooting occurred at 5914 Gulfton Street around 1:55 a.m, with the 34-year-old victim taken to hospital in stable condition.
Wanted suspect, 21-year-old Solomon Tadesse, faces a charge of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury, as filed in the 351st State District Court. Despite being charged, Tadesse is yet to be apprehended. A booking photo of Tadesse from December 2022 has been released alongside the news.
Officers initially responded to calls of gunfire outside the bar and discovered the injured man with a gunshot wound. Following this, Houston Fire Department paramedics stepped in and shuttled the man off to the nearest hospital. Reportedly, the altercation that led to the gun discharge happened in an alley behind the establishment, as noted by HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Sergeant V. Garcia and Detective A. Garcia.
Early descriptions of the suspect painted him as a black male, in his early 20s, with short black hair and a black hoodie. The break in the case came when further investigative efforts tagged Tadesse as a perpetrator. The Harris County District Attorney's Office entered the fray, resulting in Tadesse's charges. With Tadesse still on the loose, authorities are calling for public assistance to track him down.
