A man has been charged with capital murder in connection to a double homicide that occurred last year in Houston. The suspect, identified as Rodney Lee Jackson, 31, is accused of fatally shooting two young men at an apartment complex on Southlawn Street.
The incident which happened at around 5:25 p.m. on September 4, 2023, claimed the lives of Antwon Jerome Alexander, 23, and Jalen Mann, 22, the Houston Police Department reported. Officers found Alexander dead at the scene, while Mann was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
According to the City of Houston's news release, investigators did not immediately have a motive or suspect following the shooting. However, the breakthrough came when HPD patrol officers detained Jackson on unrelated charges on January 20, finding a weapon in his vehicle.
After interrogation, Jackson, who was on hold in the 4900 block of Ward Street for an unrelated charge, was linked to the September murders ".Homicide detectives then spoke with Jackson, and after speaking to him, investigators contacted the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Jackson was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting and booked into the Harris County Joint Processing Center without incident", the news release detailed.
Details of the case continue to unfold.
