Earlier today, a violent scene unfolded in Houston's eastside where two men were shot, one fatally, in what appeared to be a shootout. Authorities first responded to a report of a crash around 1:44 a.m. on the 9100 block of Clinton Drive, finding a car off the road near railroad tracks. Washington had multiple gunshot injuries and was declared dead at the scene; another man suffered a gunshot to the leg and was hospitalized in stable condition, as reported by FOX 26 Houston.
Details are sparse, but police believe the shootout occurred near the Clinton bridge over the I-610 freeway before the vehicle they were in veered off the road. The vehicle showed signs of multiple gunshots suggesting an exchange of fire with an unknown assailant or assailants, which might have initiated from another vehicle, the bicycle found near the scene lacked an obvious connection to the event, and its relevance remains a mystery. "We don't have any witnesses to the incident, and the male that we do have right now has been unable to talk to us, so if anybody has any kind of information on what happened -- it happened on the bridge between I-610 and the 9100 block of Clinton," Lt. J.P. Horelica told ABC 13 Houston.
