A young man was fatally shot early this morning on a Houston street, in what police are calling a senseless act of violence that has left local residents shaken. The victim, a 24-year-old whose identity remains unreleased pending family notification, was discovered unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds on a driveway at 3108 Burkett Street, the Houston Police Department stated. Responding to the emergency around 2:50 a.m, HPD patrol officers were met with a grim scene, according to a report posted on the City of Houston's official website.
Despite the efforts of Houston Fire Department paramedics, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. HPD Homicide Division personnel, Sergeant J. Brooks and Detective A. Hernandez, are spearheading the ongoing investigation. As of now, the trigger behind the shooting, and the assailant remain unknown, shrouded in the mystery of night when the gunfire erupted.
HPD called upon the community for assistance, "Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS," as noted on the same City of Houston news release. The department has not yet released a suspect description,, but they remain hopeful that public tips will help them unravel the circumstances that led to the young man's untimely demise.
