A young man's life came to an abrupt halt in a devastating single-car crash yesterday morning on Richmond Avenue. Houston police are currently probing the incident that occurred around 6:55 a.m. on Jan. 1, according to a news release by the City of Houston.
The victim, a 23-year-old male whose name has not yet been officially released, was behind the wheel of a white Kia Forte. He reportedly lost control, careening off the road and slamming into a curb before the vehicle went airborne on the sidewalk and finally crashed into an unforgiving tree and a sign pole. The impact was so severe that it ejected the unnamed man from the Kia, resulting in his instant death.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division's Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer J. Rangel are spearheading the inquiry into the crash. "The male was driving a white Kia Forte westbound at the above address when he struck a curb, went onto the sidewalk and then struck a tree and a sign pole," they detailed in their early findings. The department, as it stands, has not suggested any other individuals or automobiles had played a part in the tragic accident.
While the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is still engaged in the process of verifying the deceased's identity, local paramedics were called to the scene of the chaos, where they pronounced the man deceased.
