After an intense operation that spanned hours, Houston SWAT officers emerged empty-handed from a standoff at a Montrose-area apartment. The high-tension scene unfolded on Thursday when law enforcement stormed a residence on Stanford Street following reports of a domestic assault.
The drama began shortly before noon when Houston police were called to the scene after a woman alleged her boyfriend had assaulted her, the Houston Chronicle reported. The victim managed to escape the apartment and informed the authorities her assailant was inside and armed. When efforts to coax him out failed, the SWAT team moved in later that afternoon, but the man in question had slipped away.
According to KTRK, the space where the suspect was believed to be holed up was eventually breached by tactical officers. Despite the urgency and the resources poured into the response, the apartment was found to be void of not just the accused, but of anyone at all. The man accused of the assault remains at large, as authorities continue to press their search without a public description to aid in his apprehension.
Police ensured the public that no one else was in danger during the standoff, with no other individuals present in the apartment, the Houston Chronicle detailed. The identity and whereabouts of the suspect continue to elude law enforcement. Houston police have yet to release any additional information concerning the suspect or the current status of their ongoing search.
