The Irvine Traffic Bureau is set to help two-wheeled commuters navigate the streets a bit safer with a motorcycle safety training program, courtesy of experienced IPD Motorcycle Training Officers. The one-day Irvine Rider Education Program (I-REP) will roll out on February 10, from the crack of dawn at 8 a.m. to the day's close at 4 p.m., setting up camp at the Great Park for the duration of its sessions, according to the Irvine Police Department.
This training is not just about throttling and braking – it's a full ride into the world of motorcycle safety. Registration is now live, with Irvine residents given the front-of-the-line passes. Anyone eager to gear up for the course should drop an email to [email protected] to claim a spot. But hustlers take note, applications need to be in by January 31, which will be sent through after an initial email is received.
Riders looking to join should come prepared with more than just their bikes. A valid California DMV M-1 license and proof of current insurance are necessary tickets to this show. And, these streets are no place for clunkers – every bike will go under the scrutiny of an inspection pre-class to ensure they're in top-notch condition.
Safety is no joke, and neither is the gear required for I-REP. Participants need more than just a hard shell; they must don a DOT-approved helmet, gloves, suitable closed-toe riding shoes, and long pants — no ifs, ands, or buts. In terms of attitude, showing up with a mug half-full is non-negotiable, as participants must bring a positive attitude, be wide open to learning and dedicated to upping their riding game.
The wires are buzzing with this news on Irvine PD's Facebook page, where the community is encouraged to rev their engines toward this educational opportunity.
