The Los Angeles Police Department ended a high-speed chase Friday with the arrest of two suspects involved in a car theft that turned into a dangerous pursuit through South Los Angeles.

The LAPD Newton Area officers initiated the chase around 5:25 p.m. for a vehicle reported stolen. Authorities switched to tracking mode within minutes, according to one post from LAPD PIO. The pursuit ended roughly half an hour later near Hoover Street and Vernon Avenue, with two individuals and the vehicle taken into custody.

During the pursuit, live footage captured by SkyCal showed the suspect in a stolen silver Dodge Challenger, identified by mismatched license plates, swerving dangerously, and at times, driving on the wrong side of the road. As reported by CBS News, the suspect made a risky move under an I-110 underpass by abandoning the Challenger and switching to a red pickup truck to continue fleeing.

This game of cat and mouse came to a halt when the driver of the pickup truck yielded to police on S. Hoover Street and W. Vernon Avenue. LAPD officials revealed that the truck's passenger, who had originally led officers on the chase, was taken into custody along with the driver of the truck. Details about their identities or the charges they may face have not been disclosed by the police.

According to KABC, the harrowing incident saw close calls as the suspect drove at extreme speeds and near-missed collisions before the LAPD successfully brought the pursuit to an end without any reported injuries.
