Lewisville City Council is set to crack the whip on the unregulated chaos of short-term rentals come Monday. Residents are firing up to either support or decry the proposed clampdown during a meeting scheduled for Jan. 8 at 7 p.m., at Lewisville City Hall, located at 151 W. Church Street, as reported by the City of Lewisville, Texas.
On tap for the meeting is, a two-fold agenda: firstly, a public debate on an interim ban on these fast-multiplying rental properties, and secondly, delving into a drafted ordinance that seeks to govern the burgeoning industry. Community voices looking to be heard at the session need to sign up before the meeting starts, with the City providing speaker cards at the chamber's entrance. Each speaker, however, will be tight on time, given a strict five-minute limit.
For those unwilling to test the open microphone or who can't make the date, written comments are another avenue on the table. Electronic commentary can be lodged via the City’s e-comments system until 5:30 p.m. on the day of the meeting. Interested parties can find the e-comments link posted to the right side of the meeting details on the City's official calendar page.
The city's tech-savvy constituents can also fling their virtual two cents directly to the Council pre-meeting, at the dedicated email [email protected]. With the advent of short-term rentals stirring up communities nationwide, Lewisville's lawmakers seem poised to reign in what many see as an overdue need for oversight and balance in local neighborhoods.
