Early this morning, flames engulfed a carport in Canoga Park, menacing a nearby apartment complex before firefighters were able to squelch the conflagration. According to a Los Angeles Fire Department alert, the fire erupted at around 7:43 AM at 8240 N Owensmouth Avenue, with the blaze consuming a detached carport and several vehicles it sheltered. It threatened a two-story garden-style apartment building, setting a race against time for the city's firefighters.
The Los Angeles Fire Department successfully subdued the flames in just 25 minutes, according to a follow-up announcement detailing the incident. The 48 firefighters at the scene managed to confine and extinguish the fire, which included "a carport and at least four vehicles ablaze." The adjacent 23-unit apartment building was spared major damage, suffering only "superficial damage from radiant heat and smoke thanks for firefighter's efforts." Noteworthy is the fact that no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
