A blaze that erupted in a Chinatown business was swiftly extinguished by the Los Angeles Fire Department on Saturday evening. According to the official LAFD statement, the small fire was contained by firefighting forces at 821 N Spring St., with 49 firefighters taking a mere 41 minutes to quell the flames starting at 6:41 p.m.
The incident, logged as INC#1327, saw responders tackling the fire within a retail clothing store on the second floor of a large commercial structure and during the suppression efforts, they encountered an adult male suffering from smoke inhalation. He was near the fire's location at that time, found by the fire crew who responded to the emergency. The victim is currently under LAPD and LAFD scrutiny to clarify his involvement with the event—as stated by LAFD official Brian Humphrey, he's being prepared for transportation to a hospital for treatment.
No other injuries were reported in the incident, hence the fire's cause remains a mystery under active investigation by fire officials.
The status of the male victim, questioned by authorities, has not yet been disclosed.
