In a move aimed at bolstering communication with the city's Spanish-speaking residents, the Office of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has unveiled new social media channels that will cater exclusively to this demographic. Dedicated to rolling out content purely in Spanish, this decision marks a significant expansion of the city's efforts to reach out to an integral part of the Los Angeles community.
While the Mayor's Office had previously offered translations of posts on predominantly English social media channels in 2023, the newly launched platforms promise to host an ongoing dialogue tailored specifically to Spanish speakers. "Today’s launch continues an inclusive and meaningful dialogue and engagement with all Angelenos," Mayor Karen Bass said, in hosting the necessary steps to usher this initiative, according to a statement published on the Mayor's official website.
Echoing the Mayor's sentiment, the Office encourages residents to follow the new channels to stay on top of pertinent community discussions and developments. These platforms seek to be a conduit for Spanish-speaking Angelenos to obtain information and engage with the city's governance on a more direct and personal level.
Mayor Karen Bass has been at the forefront of utilizing diverse methods to converse with her constituents. Having previously facilitated telephone town halls in Spanish, the launch of the social media channels—Facebook: @AlcaldesaDeLA, and X: @AlcaldesaDeLA, and Instagram: @AlcaldesaDeLA—represents a deepening of her commitment to engaging with Angelenos across various mediums.
