Marin County Sheriff's deputies responded to an armed robbery in late December at a Chevron gas station in Strawberry, leading to an arrest this January. The incident, which raised tensions in the local community, occurred when an armed suspect entered the establishment and forced the clerk to hand over cash before fleeing. No one was injured during the robbery.
Authorities conducted an extensive investigation, in which they began to meticulously piece together snippets of video footage from surrounding businesses. Their efforts enabled them to single out a suspect vehicle, a rental, that eventually led them to identify Angelo Willie Simmons as the alleged culprit. The Marin Sheriff's office thanked the Vacaville Police Department for their role in aiding the capture of the suspect.
In a press release posted on the Marin County Sheriff's Office website, details of the initial robbery were outlined. The suspect, described as a black male adult, was clothed in black from head-to-toe and wielded a black pistol to demand money from the Chevron clerk.
After being tracked down to his residence in Vacaville, Simmons was arrested without incident by Marin County deputies, with the assist coming from Vacaville Police. In the wake of the successful operation, officials set his bail at $75,000.
Simmons is now facing charges for violation of California Penal Code 211, Robbery, as announced by local authorities. The swift resolution of this case highlights the effectiveness of inter-agency cooperation in combating crime, reassuring the community that safety remains a top priority for law enforcement officers.
