Michael Bruckner has stepped into the role of Assistant City Manager for Culver City, ready to tackle city projects and strategic goals after the previous assistant manager hung up his hat for retirement, Culver City officials announced. Bruckner's appointment comes with a hearty endorsement from the city's head honcho, City Manager John Nachbar. Bruckner is no rookie; his résumé boasts stints at Rosemead, Arcadia, and Palo Alto, honing his chops in public engagement and crisis management, including a dance with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Excited to join the 40,779 strong in the five-square-mile urban hive, Bruckner quoted the city's founder, "All roads lead to Culver City," in a statement obtained by Culver City's communications—an apt metaphor for a man whose job is to know every nook and cranny of his new turf. He's not alone on this journey, with Jesse Mays continuing as his fellow Assistant City Manager, and the pair reports directly to Nachbar, forming a leadership triad that's expected to navigate Culver City through its burgeoning high-tech and creative economies while keeping that "small town" allure alive.
Bruckner brings more than just an impressive job history to the table. Armed with a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Sonoma State University and a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania with a certificate in Public Finance, his educational background is as packed as Culver City's diverse and vibrant downtown. Culver City officials are banking on his insight and leadership to keep those well-known restaurants, theaters, and art galleries just as inviting as the city's lauded public schools.
Culver City, nestled amongst the Los Angeles sprawl, cradles a spirit of innovation that city officials hope Bruckner will both embody and further—the city is known for its tech upswing and a tight-knit community feel that residents champion. With its prime location near iconic LA hot spots and the LA International Airport, Culver City positions itself as a small yet pivotal gear in the vast Southern California machine, and Bruckner's role is pivotal in ensuring this gear spins without a hitch.
