A Michigan man who reportedly threatened to kill his ex-girlfriend and her boyfriend sparked a dramatic police pursuit that ended with his apprehension in a river, state authorities have disclosed. As per CBS News Detroit, the incident began around 2 a.m. on Jan 26 when Eaton County Dispatch received a distress call.

Responding to the scene near Vermontville Highway and Bradley Road, Michigan State troopers located the 32-year-old suspect, who then fled into the Thornapple River. The man, reported to have been intoxicated and potentially suicidal, was pursued through water and swamp with the assistance of a K9 unit, and eventually spotted by a drone operated by Eaton County’s Drone Unit. "MSP says troopers then used a canoe to get to the suspect and take him into custody," as detailed by CBS News Detroit.

Following the chase, the Holt man was rushed to Sparrow Hospital for treatment for hypothermia and intoxication, and he underwent a mental evaluation. According to Audacy, the man who was treated for hypothermia after fleeing into the river will be transferred to Eaton County Jail upon discharge from the hospital, with charges yet to be determined by authorities.

On Sunday, the suspect was released from the hospital and brought to jail where he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and obstructing police, reckless driving, and having open intoxicants in a vehicle, WILX News 10 reported. However, the man still awaits arraignment, as stated by the Michigan State Police. Residents have been following the progression of this case closely, with a mixture of concern over the violent threats and the suspect's wellbeing, and relief at the resolution without further harm.
