The Novato Police Department is leading an investigation into a death at Marin County Jail, which occurred last Thursday morning. The deceased, identified by the Sonoma County Coroner's Office as 35-year-old Felicia Wyatt of Petaluma, was found unresponsive in her cell by a jail deputy during a routine check around 5:45 a.m., per the officials.
The Marin County Sheriff's Office revealed that despite efforts by the jail staff and the San Rafael Fire Department to revive Wyatt, she was pronounced dead before 6:00 AM. Arrested on January 23, 2024, on outstanding warrants and drug-related charges, Wyatt's cause of death is pending an autopsy by the Sonoma Coroner's Office, who despite their expertise is tasked with revealing what may have led Wyatt to pass away in her jail cell.
The Novato Police have committed to carrying out "a thorough and impartial investigation by gathering all facts and evidence," as they indicated in their statement regarding this situation. According to Hoodline, the Marin County Sheriff's Office has tasked the Novato Police with the investigation, seeking to maintain independence during the probe.
