In a brazen act of thievery, an unidentified suspect has made off with the tailgate of a white 2019 Dodge Ram. The theft occurred on the evening of January 5, according to officials, in the parking lot of a hotel located on the 1600 block of Central Expressway Northbound. The Plano Police Department released information that the suspect was clad in dark clothing, a hoodie with an indiscernible graphic emblazoned on the back, looking to make a quick score. The alleged thief made their escape in a distinctive Dodge long-bed pickup, sporting a matte textured finish that's likely applied with Rhino liner, and further characterized by after-market auxiliary lights fitted within the grill, according to the Plano Texas Police Department.
For those who might hold a clue to unraveling this nighttime heist, the authorities at Plano are asking for eyes and ears. Covered in the veil of darkness, and wearing dark clothing, it is not just the stolen property they carried away, they absconded with a sense of security. Anyone with insights or information has been encouraged to step forward and contact Detective McEntire at the Plano Police Department's Property Tip Line by dialing (972) 941-5555. Citing case number 24-003704 could be helpful for the police in connecting the dots.
Of note, these types of thefts, where parts are purloined from vehicles, signify not just a loss of property, but also the disruption of peace for both the car owner and the community. Such acts of theft strike at the heart of what we expect from the sanctity of our personal spaces, even when they extend to the seemingly impersonal expanse of a hotel parking lot. The Plano Police have sought assistance in these matters before, laying the burden of such crimes at the feet of the community to help rectify.
