A man working as a security guard is now behind bars for reportedly opening fire on a female deputy, sparking fears of an attempted murder on a police officer. The incident, taking place at the Augusta North Apartments on Kuykendahl Road, saw deputies responding to reports of gunfire. The suspect, identified as Jernard Brown, allegedly fired shots into the air and then at a deputy who was arriving at the scene.
As additional officers rushed to assist, Brown is said to have shot several rounds towards one of the deputies before he decided to quickly flee into a nearby apartment. Inside the residence, officers were evacuating civilians when Brown emerged and was secured by authorities. He was wearing a security guard jacket and body armor which raises serious questions about the intent and preparedness behind his actions.
In a statement released on the official Facebook page of Constable Mark Herman's Office, it was reported that "Jernard Brown was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Attempted Capital Murder of a Police Officer." The details of his bond and court schedule had not been finalized at the time of the statement.
Harris County officials have not released further details about the suspect's motives or whether he was actively employed as a security guard at the time of the incident. What is clear is that the situation could have escalated to an even more tragic outcome had the officers not managed to detain the suspect without harm to themselves or the apartment residents. The events are still under investigation and more information is promised to follow as the case develops.
Brown's prosecution will further unravel the plot that led him to allegedly attempt to take a deputy's life in what could only be described as a brazen act of defiance against the very fabric of law and order. The citizens of the community, alongside the local authorities, hope for a swift and just resolution to this case.
