In a shocking burst of gang violence, six high school students affiliated with gangs were arrested in Santa Rosa for the attempted murder of a 41-year-old man last week. According to a Facebook post by the Santa Rosa Police Department, the juveniles were part of a larger group that aggressively attacked the victim after a heated exchange near Bellevue Ranch Park.
The SRPD reports that the incident occurred on January 11, 2024, when the victim, riding his bike, encountered the group of 15 juveniles in the park. After attempting to escape them on his bicycle, he was chased and then stabbed between 8 and 10 times, including a severe laceration running parallel to his spinal column. It was by the grace of a passing motorist who intervened to stop the assault and residents who provided immediate aid, arguably saving the victim’s life.
All six arrested suspects are former or current Elsie Allen High School students, with one attending Pivot Charter School. Four suspects left their homes to go to school or a court hearing yesterday morning. In a series of coordinated surveillance operations, the SRPD Gang Crimes Team and additional officers apprehended them. One suspect had been in custody already on unrelated charges. During one arrest on Brookshire Court, a 16-year-old was found with a disassembled firearm in his backpack, along with a 3D printer at his home believed to be used in manufacturing firearm parts.
The arrests resulted in a slew of charges, including attempted murder and participation in a criminal street gang. Searches of the suspects' residences led to the seizure of several knives, gang paraphernalia, and electronic devices. The knives have yet to undergo forensic testing to establish if they were used in the stabbing. As the investigation continues, anyone with information is compelled to contact SRPD’s online Tip Line or the Gang Crimes Team.
In response to the stabbing and the arrests, the SRPD has reiterated its commitment to assisting individuals trapped in gang life. The department highlighted resources like the Santa Rosa Violence Prevention Partnership available for those seeking to break free from gang involvement. The community’s role in thwarting the assault and aiding the victim has been met with deep gratitude by the police, underscoring the importance of civic vigilance and compassion in the face of gang violence.
