The pulse of Dallas' vibrant art scene will quicken come February as the Bath House Cultural Center unveils its latest tapestry of creative expression – the "Soft Bones Exhibition." Slated to run from February 3 through March 9, this invitational showcase stitches together the works of DFW artists delving deep into the realms of Fiber, Textiles, and Material Studies. A public reception with the artists is on tap for Saturday, February 3, between 6 and 9 PM, complete with a live set from DJ Christy Ray, as per the City of Dallas.
Under the curatorship of artist Analise Minjarez, "Soft Bones" promises, not just an exhibition, but an exploration of contemporary art that seeks to challenge and redefine the traditional perceptions of fiber craft. The exhibition will spotlight a lineup of creatives including June Covington, Niki Dionne, Beronica Gonzales, and Sam Lao among others. These artists are lauded for their ability to unravel, toy with, and probe how material and age-old techniques in Fibers can spawn conceptual connections within their artistic practices.
Connecting threads of generations' worth of skill, the show encompasses the meticulous maintenance the Fibers medium demands, something passed down through cultures, family lore, and even digital conduits like online tutorials and interactive maker communities. Each piece displayed is an emblem of tradition meshed with avant-garde thinking, heralding the mark of modernity on a time-honored craft.
Those eager to witness this synthesis of historical artisanship and contemporary vision can do so on any given Tuesday to Saturday at the gallery's viewing hours, from 12 PM to 6 PM. On nights graced with theater performances, the center graciously extends its welcome till 10 PM, a breath of cultural nocturne for the nocturnal. For an immersive experience, a visit to the Bath House's scenic lakeside locale at 521 E. Lawther in Dallas is unmissable.
