A teenage runaway was apprehended for vehicle theft after she reportedly swiped her mother’s car in a troubling incident earlier this month, law enforcement said. According to a Facebook post by Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman’s Office, a 15-year-old girl fled from her home and was located swiftly by deputies at an apartment complex on Gosling Road on January 7.
The ensuing probe dug up that the youth had taken the vehicle the day before, leading to the recovery of the car and her mother's decision to press charges for the theft, the post detailed. “The juvenile was charged with Theft and released to an adult guardian,” Constable Herman relayed in the public notice.
The teen's identity has not been disclosed due to her status as a minor. Officials involved in the case have not released further details about the motivations behind the theft or potential consequences the juvenile will face in juvenile court, but they have returned the vehicle back to her mother.
