A fierce blaze ripped through a home in the South Belt / Ellington area, resulting in two firefighters incurring injuries while battling the inferno, the Houston Fire Department reported. The incident, which occurred on January 21 at approximately 10:10 a.m., took place at a residence located on the 10600 block of Kirkshire Dr. The house was engulfed in flames when emergency responders arrived on the scene.
The firefighters were promptly transported to the hospital after part of the ceiling collapsed on them during the firefighting efforts. Despite the dangers faced in the line of duty, both were released after being examined for their injuries. According to the statement obtained by the Houston Fire Department, crews aggressively attacked the flames and confirmed that all occupants had been safely evacuated before proceeding to ventilate the roof and secure the utilities.
The American Red Cross was brought in to aid the displaced residents, while HFD Arson investigators were called in to uncover the fire's cause and origin. Reports have circulated that the incident, which has left behind an estimated $275,000 worth of property damage, appears to be accidental though it is still under active investigation.
In total, 33 personnel, which included teams from Stations 23, 70, 71, 52, 61, 93, and 24, responded to the calamity. These first responders played a critical part in extinguishing the blaze, which caused extensive damage to the one-story house
